What Causes Dyslexia?
There are a wide range of theories on what causes dyslexia. Plenty of research has been done but there are still no complete answers on its cause. The exact cause of dyslexia is therefore unknown. It is important to remember that not everyone who has trouble with reading and writing is dyslexic.

DNA
Reading difficulties tend to run in families, which suggest that the cause of dyslexia could be genetic.
Health
There may have been health issues that have interfered with language development and writing ability, such as visual problems or deafness.
Language
A child from a non-English speaking background usually takes longer to master speech, reading and writing in both languages.
Education
Lack of educational opportunities; for example, a chronic illness may have kept them out of school for long periods of time.
ADD/ADHD
Behavioralor developmental disorders. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can cause learning problems.
